Discover Big Sky

Visitors to Big Sky Resort typically fly into Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, which is served by most major carriers, with an hour’s scenic drive South along Highway 191.

The resort was originally opened in 1973 by Montana native Chet Huntley, and opened in December of that year. Big Sky initially had 3 lifts- two chairs and a gondola. Following Huntley’s death in 1974, the resort was purchased by Boyne Resorts in 1976. In the years that followed Big Sky Resort grew impressively, more than tripling its skiable terrain creating a Big Sky luxury resort. In 2000, Boyne Resorts implemented a grand, $400 million 10-year improvement program, including new hotels at Big Sky Resort and updates to the main hub of Mountain Village. As the mountain’s central base, Mountain Village is home to a number of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as an array of lodging options.
