Overview
Bakwena Eco Lodge is an intimate, privately owned eco-lodge situated on the banks of the Chobe River. Established in 2000, the lodge has transformed a once barren area into a thriving eco-retreat that prioritizes sustainability and community engagement.
Bakwena Lodge’s eco-friendly practices include the use of natural materials in construction and a chemical-free, plant-filtered swimming pool. This process has been meticulously planned by the owners of the lodge, Jenny and Adam Young, who have diligently nurtured their vision over the years, meticulously re-establishing the indigenous riverine woodland that now greets visitors.
Rooms
Bakwena boasts fifteen individual chalets, each meticulously designed and adorned to harmonize with the environment, providing guests with a serene and comfortable retreat.
The lodge offers two distinct room categories: ten ‘River-View Chalets,’ all positioned to overlook the majestic Chobe River, and five ‘Treetop Chalets,’ elevated 3.5 meters above ground level with captivating views of the canopy.

The rooms feature air conditioning and offer the option of interconnected layouts for added convenience. Each room boasts a private balcony, perfect for taking in the gorgeous landscapes and looking out for animals drinking by the river’s edge.
Guests can also unwind by the pool or partake in the complimentary breakfast served daily. Entertainment is never far away with the presence of a dedicated staff, while board games and puzzles provide additional leisure options for guests to enjoy.

A Typical Day
After an early morning wake-up call and a light breakfast served at the lodge, guests then set off on a guided game drive. These early hours provide optimal conditions for wildlife activity and the lodge’s expert guides ensure an informative and immersive experience as you explore the park’s various ecosystems.
In the afternoon, after a leisurely lunch and some relaxation at the lodge, guests embark on a cruise along the Chobe River. Guests get to experience elephants swimming across the river, hippos basking in the shallows, and crocodiles lurking on the edges. As the day ends, the golden hues of the sunset over the river create a breathtaking backdrop, completing a day filled with remarkable wildlife encounters and scenic beauty.
