Why travel at this time

With fewer water sources available during the winter, larger groups of wildlife congregate around where water is available. This, coupled with the sparse vegetation and lower tourist numbers, makes it a great time of year for wildlife viewing.

Winter in the Kruger National Park is characterized by dry, sunny days and crisp, cool nights. Daytime temperatures typically range from 25°C to 28°C (77°F to 82°F), while nighttime temperatures can drop to around 10°C to 14°C (50°F to 57°F). This time of year also typically sees significantly less rainfall and much lower levels of humidity.

Why travel at this time

This summer period, also known as the wet season, sees the Kruger Park transformed into a verdant landscape. It is marked by the birth of numerous wildlife, making it an excellent time for spotting baby animals and witnessing predator activity. It is also the time where migratory birds arrive.

Climate

From October to November, temperatures rise as rainfall increases, while December to February witnesses the peak of wet and hot conditions, marked by heavy afternoon rainfall and high humidity. By March and April, rainfall begins to taper as temperatures gradually cool, with clearer skies and cooler nights.
