Lelapa Lodge at Madikwe

Situated in the North West Province near the Botswana border, Madikwe, which translates to “”Africa in its majesty””, stands as one of South Africa’s largest and most exclusive private game reserves in the country.
The landscape in the reserve transitions from wooded hills to expansive savannah plains, characterized by rich red soil and dense sekelbos thickets. As you venture west into the 75,000-hectare reserve, the terrain gradually shifts to the drier, sandy plains of the Kalahari. This diverse environment hosts a variety of ecosystems, providing habitat for Africa’s famous Big Five as well as numerous other mammal species.

The Lelapa Lodge features 12 Deluxe Suites accommodating a total of 24 guests, with certain suites providing adjoining rooms suitable for families with young children. Despite the presence of a splendid communal pool, every suite is lavishly equipped with its own private plunge pool, ensuring exclusive enjoyment.

Mindful of preserving the natural surroundings, the suites offer an unparalleled connection to the heart of the African bushveld. They feature expansive bathrooms with elegant tubs, both indoor and outdoor showers, and breathtaking views of the landscape. The addition of wood-burning fireplaces creates an inviting ambiance for intimate evenings, whether spent with family or as a romantic retreat beside the flickering warmth of the flames.

Alternatively, embark on a “deckchair safari”, savoring drinks and snacks while observing zebras, giraffes, elephants, and various other wildlife. For those inclined towards socializing, the main camp offers communal spaces including a dining area, fireplace lounge with a library, generously furnished deck, and a boma raised above the bush. Guests at Kopano also have access to Lelapa camp’s communal pool, providing further opportunities to observe local wildlife up close.

Join fellow guests for sundowners and panoramic views on the Star Deck, or relish in festive bush dinners by the boma fire.
Whether you prefer cozying up by the fire, indulging in a relaxing bubble bath, practicing yoga on the deck, pampering yourself with in-room spa treatments, or simply soaking up the sun while admiring the expansive views of Madikwe, your stay promises pure relaxation.

This reserve stands out as one of the rare locations where Aardwolf, Brown Hyena, and Spotted Hyena coexist. In addition to the chance to encounter Africa’s Big-5, the Madikwe boasts thriving populations of Cheetah and Wild Dog, along with what’s known as Africa’s Secret-7: Aardvark, African Wild Cat, Civet, Large Spotted Genet, Pangolin, Porcupine, and Serval. To ensure optimal viewing, each sighting is limited to three vehicles, with opportunities for off-road tracking through the bush.

While vehicle safaris offer the advantage of covering more terrain and spotting more wildlife, exploring the African bushveld on foot provides an exhilarating experience, allowing guests to appreciate the intricate details often overlooked from a vehicle.
