Sure, there are other ski resorts with more terrain, more apres-ski, and more of the stuff that gets measured. Deer Valley isn’t trying to win those categories. What it offers instead is impeccably groomed slopes, a ski-only mountain, and service that fully anticipates your needs before you need to even ask. For skiers who care about the quality of the experience as much as the quantity of the runs, there’s nowhere quite like it.

The resort spans approximately 4,300 skiable acres following its ongoing Expanded Excellence initiative. It’s now nearly triple its original size, and is spread across six peaks with terrain for every ability level. Deer Valley is famously skier-only, caps its daily ticket sales to protect the quality of the skiing, and runs a lift system built around minimizing queue time. Operating hours run 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily during the ski season, with opening day typically in early December.

For winter guests seeking to supplement their skiing experience there are a host of other activities to enjoy, including snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sleigh rides, dog sledding, tubing at Woodward Park City, and guided fly fishing. Summer transforms the mountain entirely: lift-served hiking and mountain biking, horseback riding, fly fishing on the Provo River, hot air ballooning over the Wasatch, and the summer concert series at the Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Finally, year-round experiences and activities include relaxing spa days, boutique shopping, art galleries and museum tours, especially at the Utah Olympic Park.
Deer Valley takes food seriously, and the resort’s restaurant lineup reflects that. Fine dining options include Goldener Hirsch, the French-influenced Apex at the Montage, Rime (the resort’s slope-side raw bar), Glitretind at Stein Eriksen Lodge, and the theatrical Fireside Dining, where dishes are cooked over open stone fireplaces. For those seeking something a little more casual, options include The Brass Tag, Silver Lake Restaurant, and Snowshoe Tommy’s.
Deer Valley’s lodging ranges from ski-in/ski-out condos and lodges to grand private estates with amenities like private hot tubs, home cinemas, and expansive mountain views that you’ll never get tired of. Some of our favorite condo buildings include Stein Eriksen Lodge (the benchmark for mid-mountain luxury) and One Empire Pass (contemporary design with direct slope access), and for those looking for a large private home we absolutely love both Mountainhead (the home featured on HBO’s TV film of the same name) and Star Gazer.
The resort’s own shops at Snow Park Lodge and Silver Lake Village are the most convenient starting point, with personalized fittings and current-season equipment. For maximum convenience, especially if you’re staying in a private home, Ski Butlers delivers directly to your accommodation and handles all fitting on site. Jans, Christy Sports, and Ski ‘N See are other local options.
Deer Valley’s ski school is built around capped group sizes (the Max 4 adult group lessons are exactly what they sound like) and a children’s program (Adventure Club, Reindeer Club, Bambi Club, Fawn Club, Teen Escape) that focuses on younger skiers at an individual level. Private lessons are available for all abilities, and there is also a dedicated Women’s Three-Day Program. The resort also has a long running adaptive ski program in partnership with the National Ability Center.
Deer Valley limits daily ticket sales, which means popular dates, particularly Christmas, New Year’s, and Presidents’ Week, can sell out well in advance. Options include the Ikon Pass and Ikon Base Plus Pass, the Deer Valley Season Pass, a Midweek Season Pass, and single and multi-day tickets for shorter stays. Summer lift tickets cover hiking, scenic rides, and mountain biking.
